“I will pay more for the ability to deal with people than any other ability under the sun.” ~John D. Rockefeller

“It’s hard to say exactly what it is about face-to-face contact that makes deals happen, but whatever it is, it hasn’t yet been duplicated by technology.” ~Paul Graham

One of my favorite TV commercials is a United Airlines’ ad from several years ago. (Click on You Tube link below.) The grizzled, veteran boss calls his sales team into their large, windowed conference room to announce they lost a valuable, long-time client. He goes on to explain how they used to do business face-to-face, now they do it with a phone call or fax (Update for today: by an email, text, tweet, etc.) He continues to say they lost touch with the client and their needs. He then proceeds to pass out plane tickets to all his sales people stating they are going to visit each of their clients, personally, including their recently lost client.

It is important to remember with all the tremendously productive tech tools we have at our disposal, for many businesses there is still no substitute for building face-to-face relationships.
